SPORTS DO NOT BUILD CHARACTER, THEY REVEAL IT.

The light spilled across the field as we walked towards the chain link fence. Circling the field looking for an entrance we stumbled across a forlorn looking lacrosse net. Tucked in a corner the frame stood worn and sun bleached with frayed edges and sagging ropes - the sign of a truly loved net.

All my life I’ve played sports, but lacrosse holds a special place in my heart. I played for six years and looking at that net brought back a flood of memories - those rainy Oregon nights at practice, 5 am two-a-days, and the rush of a fierce competition. I may not play anymore, but the mentality remains. I suppose it was always within me - the dedication, the resilience, and the sheer persistence of getting up every day and stepping out onto the field no matter what. It showed me what I was capable of, not just on the field, but in all aspects of life.

Sports do not build character. They reveal it.
